Stephanie McDonnell is a ceramic artist and instructor born in Rochester, NY and currently residing in Buffalo, NY (Go Bills)!!!
Functional pottery is a primary focus whereas sculpture and hand-building allow her to breakaway for further inspiration and exploration of conceptual ideas.
The sculptural works evoke a loose representation of movement, energy, and human form through the application of texture and patterns. Experimentation plays an essential role in the process. A strong emphasis is placed on challenges that arise from altering or improvising throughout the sculpting process as opposed to focusing on precise expectations.
In the field of ceramics, nothing is ever certain. An artist can plan accordingly and mostly predict an outcome, however something could change at any point in the process. It is important to embrace a sense of detachment, curiosity, and persistence. One must be able to adapt to changes frequently and it is up to the artist if they are inspired through these successes and failures!
Repetition of motifs and patterns embrace the rhythm of daily studio life and personal tendencies, meanwhile stimulating a sense of energy and movement. Ornamentation heavily influenced through nature, fabric, and personal decor aesthetic preferences.
All functional work is food-safe, microwave & dishwasher safe.
